31DC2015 - Inspired by a tutorial - double stamping

For today's tutorial prompt, I tried a technique I've been wanting to try for ages. Double processed stamping.  I followed a video tutorial done by my friend Julia from Messy Mansion, which you can see here on YouTube.

For this mani, I started with a white base.  I then stamped using two blues from Mundo de Unas.  The first blue, the lighter one was stamped first using a curved line design. While that was still on the stamper I then stamped the rectangles images. What happens is that some of the first stamping design sticks to the plate where there isn't any polish to pick up.  Where there is polish to be picked up, it puts that on the stamper over the original stamping.  You then just press it on as usual.

I didn't find it too hard to get the images to transfer well, but what I had the most difficulty with was selecting two stamping designs that would work well.  You need to choose something with fine and close details for your first image, and then something with larger solid sections for the second image.

31DC2015 - Inspired by the supernatural

I can't tell you how much I love this design.  It is 100% inspired by the amazing PiggieLuv and specifically, this post she did back in March.  As soon as I saw the post back in March, I screen shot it and kept it for my inspiration for the 31 Day Challenge, and this specific prompt.

I created this look using Gelicious hybrid gel polish.  I started with a layer of Picture Polish Peel Off base coat, to make removal of the gel polish super easy.  I then applied two coats of Gelicious French White, curing for each coat.  I then painted the face and hand prints using French White.  I built up the layers and cured the imprints three times.  To finish of the mani I used a layer of Matte Gel Top coat.

My imprints aren't as fine featured as PiggieLuv's, they are more chunky, manly hands - buy isn't this such an awesome look, and definitely one worth trying for Halloween!

31DC2015 - Inspired by a flag

Once again I've decided to take my prompt for the flag from the animated world.  Last year I did the world flag from Futurama, but 10 points to anyone out there that knows what this flag is from?

In case you don't know, this is a flag from one of my favourite animated shows ever, The Simpsons. It's from the episode where Bart and Lisa are paired up together on a trip to Capital City and end up designing a new state flag.  Lisa designs one that say "to fraternal love", and then unbeknownst to her, Bart redesigns it before the reveal to the parliamentarian to say "learn to fart".

31DC2015 - Inspired by artwork

I've always loved optical illusion art works, and in my first year of the 31 Day Challenge I use a design by M C Escher for my inspired by artwork design.  Today's art work is another famous optical illusion one, although I don't know who the artist wass.

These were some nails that I pulled together whilst I was ill. I did this because they are super quick for me to be able to print out and apply.  Maximum impact for minimum effort. I just wish my printer printed in finer detail on the water decal paper so get a smoother look.

31DC2015 - Inspired by a pattern - Burberry

For today's prompt I've gone with a very minimalist look, based around the Burberry pattern on a nail wrap.  On my other fingers I have Face of Australia Travilla with a single line of holographic black glitters that I placed in a line.

The feature nail is a Jamberry nail wrap. WHAT! I know! With all the drama going on at the moment with Jamberry, can you believe that I am using one?  Truth is, Jamberry is launching here in Australia in a few days and I was sent some samples to review.  I have no interest in becoming a Jamberry consultant, but I actually wanted to try them out to see how they compare to all the other nail wraps on the market.  You'll have to come back for that review in early October after I've finished the 31 Day challenge (and finished my wear test).

31DC2015 - Inspired by Fashion - Shoes

We are in the home stretch with the 31 day challenge with less than a week to go!  It's been a tough slog this year for me, and getting sick really through me off.  I still managed to get my manis done, but some may be lacking in creativity.

Today's prompt is inspired by fashion, and I was inspired by a pair of shoes I saw on instagram.  Sadly the post didn't credit where they are from or what brand they are, so if you know I'd love you to tell me, as I would love this pair of shoes!

My mani was created using a single coat of Emily de Molly, Cracks in the Walls.  I left it at one coat because I wanted a sheer look behind the striping tape, as the show only has a fine mesh.  I then applied the striping tape starting with the middle fingers and working outwards.

The effect was really cool, and I think the holo lines in the striping tape really set the design off.

31DC2015 - Inspired by a book - Thelma the unicorn

With two young children, it's no surprise that for the second year in a row I've chosen a children's book as my inspiration for today's nail art.  This is the book that my four year old daughter begged me to buy for her during book week at school at the beginning of term.  It's called Thelma the Unicorn.

Thelma the Unicorn is about a donkey who dreams of being a unicorn.  She ties a carrot to her head and then a passing truck driver gets such a shock when he thinks he's seen a unicorn that he crashes his truck.  This truck happens to be carrying pink paint and glitter and it ends up going all over Thelma.  Well then Thelma becomes famous and everyone knows her, but then fame becomes nasty cause she no longer has privacy, and most of all she misses her paddock and her best friend, Otis the donkey.  She ends up washing off the paint and glitter, removing the carrot and walking away from fame unnoticed, back to her friend.  It's just an adorable story and my girl basically knows it by heart now.

The base is Picture Polish Fairy Floss.  The silver holo glitter is just some silver glitter from glitter unique mixed with clear base that I made.  The unicorn charm I bought from Hex Nail Charms and painted it with OPI Push and Shove so that it was silver and not gold.

31DC2015 - Inspired by a movie - Jurassic World

I think there may be a few Jurassic Park/World mani's this year given the movies popularity and the number of great dinosaur stamping plates.  It was a easy design for me to go with, although not very innovative.

I used the dinosaur images on the Bundle Monster plate BM611 to colour in and reverse stamp.  I printed a home made water decal for the Jurassic Park logo.
