Let's go shopping with Cathy

This blog post idea is totally with thanks to Natalia from Cats-n-nails @cat_n_nails, who has done a couple of series on instagram posts where she has headed to her local polish shops and took some shopping piccies.  Natalia, I loved your idea, so I'm doing it too!!

Please join me everyone, as we shop around Canberra, Australia to see what we can find.

First up, Sally Hansen Salon effect - both last and new season designs @ only $14.95 a set. Ouch!

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine - gorgeous, but I got mine off ebay for about $4 each.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - $14.95.

Proof that you can score some bargins. "Nail Tint" for only 83c - the colours were pretty gross though.

Good old Revlon - an Aussie bargin at just $16.95 - haha

Maybelline Color Show - pretty good for $5.95.

More Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicures, another shop but the same price.

Oooh yeah, get yourself some crackle with 5 cents change from $10.

Bourjois minis - 5ml for $5. But super gorgeous polishes.  The sales assistant told me they are made my the same company that make Chanel. Anyone know if that is true?

Sally Hansen Gem Crush - $9.95

Sally Hansen Xtreme wear - $6.95 - I learned on the weekend that these are great for watermarbling, and the colours are excellent too.  I might have to get some more.

MaxFactor Glossfinity Nail Polish - $11.95

MaxFactor Minis - Including Fantasy Fire for $5.95

Aussie brand Chi chi - lots of great creme colours for $5.

More Chi Chi, but these must be the fancy ones cause they cost more than double the price.

Model Prefer kits $10.  Each of the kits comes with two bottles, all these ones come with a colour and a bottle of caviar beads. Some of the other packs have glitter polishes.

Amazing Savvy polishes for $3 - I did grab me some of these, including the aEngland She walks in Beauty dupe, swatches coming.

Sally Hansen Color Quick Nail Color Pen - $16.95. Never tried them, and at this price I never will.

Larger bottles of Bourjois - including one of my favourite go to sheer pinks, Rose Lounge $8.40.

OPI - only $19.95 a bottle or $24.95 for a DS.

Revlon Nail Art Mani Mix - $15.95. I love these polishes, I only have one which was gifted to be, but by the looks of this stand (which is nearly empty), everyone seems happy to pay $15.95 for them.

Sally Hansen Magnetics - magnetics were so last year!  At $16.95 a bottle I'm amazed they are selling anything.

Some rather ordinary nail art stickers, for a bargin at only $7 a packet.

More Bourjois - these are the amazing one coat brushes that are nearly double the width of an OPI. I only have one, and it's that red one at the back, but the other colours look nice.

There you go, I hope you enjoyed the visit to my local stores to see what we can purchase in the shops.  What do you think of our prices.  Are the comparable to yours??

  1. Ooh, I've never seen those Sally Hansen Gem Crush! They look great :)

Some prices are comparable to those where I live, (the Netherlands) like the Max Factor ones, but others are waaay more expensive over there!

  2. Wow most of those are at least double the price compared to where I live in the US! Regular OPI is around $8 and the DS is $12.50. Sally Hansen Xtreme wear is $2.99. It's nice to know how things compare in other countries. Thanks!

  3. Those prices are crazy!!! I thought OPI and the Sally Hansen strips were expensive near me, but I guess they aren't too bad!! the strips are $10.95 and the OPI's are between 8-10$. A lot of stuff you can get cheaper online which is cool. For example, I recently purchased China Glaze's textured collection online. The set includes 6 polishes for 20.99 on amazon. You should check it out!

  4. I just want to laugh at how ridiculous the prices are of everything here. Lol! It's just so stupid! I'm glad that there's other ways to get our hands on them, though. And I do like a good Priceline sale. I don't tend to buy that much "mainstream" polish these days anyway. Indies are my true love. Hehe. And when I have a creme craving, I usually head to the ulta3 bins or Priceline and check out what Savvy has to offer. :)

  5. Holy crap. In the US OPI is about $9.50 retail. How can nail polish be so expensive over there??? Especially when I can get OPI for $5.99 on glisten and glow!

  6. Holy smokes, and I thought polishes were expensive here. Well, we don't have Revlon or Sally Hansen here, but a bottle of OPI is 21 USD...

  7. I live in a small central European country where we earn 30% of your average salary, but most prices are about the same. We have Revlon a bit cheaper, but lack Sally Hansen, for example. I'd never pay over 5€ for a big-sized bottle of nail polish, couldn't afford it.

  8. Looks like the prices we have here in Norway. Though, OPI is 26$ here. So Its propably more expensive here! But I'm glad we have ebay, haha. I would never pay 26$ for a OPI polish..

  9. Holy shit! I can't believe they retail price stuff like Sally Hansen for 15$! I live in America (saying that sounds so hoity toity!) and I don't think I've seen any even near 10$, how crazy!

    1. The Magnetic ones can come close. I think they're like, $8 or $9 here.

  10. Holy crap! Those are all, like, double what we pay here in the States! The Complete Salon Manicures are, like, $6. The Xtreme Wears are $2.50.

  11. I am shocked at how much they are charging you! I don't know about the rest of the USA but I pay $2.99 for the Sally Hansen hard as Nails, Revlon $7, Sally Hansen Complete is $7 and Lustre Shine is $8 or 9. Maybelline Color Show I think is $4 here but I usually get it with a coupon so I am not sure how much it retails for normally. I complain about paying $8 for Zoya, OPI, and Essie or $15 for a Butter London. I had no idea how much polish COULD cost elsewhere. I am stunned. I could not afford to be a polish hoarder there where you are.

  12. These photos are a great idea! Pity the nail tints are not in good colours as I would have liked to try them for that price - were there any you think would be reasonable ok for frankening?

  13. Hi Cathy!
It is true that Bourjois is a subsidiary of Chanel.
And I liked your article, fun and a nice change!! :)

  14. Whew its expensive to be addicted over there!

  15. What a good idea ;) I might be doing that kind of post when I start blogging again (of course crediting you).. Prices are about the same or a bit cheaper than here in DK. Long live Ebay, Amazon and whatnot ;)

  16. Huh, those are some odd discrepancies! Sally Hansen is much cheaper in Australia than here (Israel). All of the Sally Hansens are the same, around $15 AUD, even the ones that should cheaper. The salon effects are actually around $25 in stores here! But Revlon is much cheaper here (a regular bottle of Revlon costs ~5 AUD), and ColoRama is definitely cheaper! (~3 AUD). Bourjois varies from store to store, but it usually costs around $10.

It's weird that it's not uniformly more expensive or cheaper- it actually is really uneven.

  17. I saw the new Sally Hansen Lutre shines in Chemist Warehouse for $6! GO!

  18. We have the same ridiculous prices here i Denmark! Some of it is a bit more expensive, actually :b A normal opi costs about $24. It's crazy.. And Sally Hansen complete salon manicure is $17. Thank god we have eBay :D
(These prices are converted from DKK to Australian dollars)

  19. I just saw the new Sally Hansen Fuzzy coat polishes in Priceline today for $9.95 which I think is okay, but they look so cute. Definitely added to my wishlist! Also saw new Revlon polishes - Whimsical, Girly, Heavenly and a few others.
