Happy Australia Day people.
I couldn't help myself, I had to go with the classic flag nail art for Australia Day.
I used a custom blue holo polish I made for the blue base. I stamped individual stars in special white polish using Bundle Monster plate BM11 to make the Southern Crosses. For the Union Jack, I used a nail art brush and free painted the white and red lines using Nfu Oh 61 (so its actually silver not white) and Hits Ares. All topped off with a coat of Seche Vite.
This is such an amazing holo mani, but it has been really overcast here today (stupid cold summer!) and I can't get it to show how pretty it is.
Here is an indoor photo I took with a lamp, although it doesn't really show the holo any better. But it shows how much the blue pops.
Now yesterday, at the end of my post I said I was off to do something a little silly on my nails. I have an EPIC NAIL FAIL that I'm going to share with you. I couldn't bear to post this mani in it's own post because its just so god damn awful. If you have a weak stomach, look away now.
What I was attempting was "shrimp on the barbie". I was happy with the base, which I sponged on grey orange and red holo polishes to represent the coals. But then I couldn't be bothered using tape to make the grill lines nice and neat so I just freehanded them. WRONG!
Then I attempted to add the prawns to the BBQ, which I had made using the transparent water decal paper. The thing is, you really have to have light coloured nails to use the transparent decals. Because you can't print anything white, it relies on the background nail colour to provide the white contrast. What I tried to do was paint a tiny bit of white on my nail where the decal would go. FAIL. I then tried to paint the back of the decal. I finally got the hang of doing that for the prawn on my pinky!
Here is the prawn on my pinking, this was the only decent looking one. All the others look like they have way too much butter and garlic on them!! Arrrggghhh garlic butter prawns *wipes drool from mouth*
Anyway, I hope you have a giggle and my dreadful and epic nail fail. Aussies, I hope you have a great day off, and to those that are taking tomorrow off too, have a great extra long weekend.
Girls, I expect to see some links pasted below to your nails for Australia Day!
I ♥ your shrimps on the barbie... everything about them! The grill is totally creative and the shrimp look deeeelish! :)

ReplyDeleteI don't know what you're talking about fail but I looooove your shrimp on the barbie!!!
ReplyDeleteFail = wobbly and different thickness grill lines and the white paint all under the prawns. Thank you, your very kind!
Deletehehehe I've been waiting to see what you'd come up with. I asked my hubby last night what I should paint on my nails for Australia Day and he said a BBQ and I was like 'you want me to paint meat on my nails!'. I just couldn't see a way to make it look good but I love your shrimps and I don't even eat the things :)
ReplyDeleteThe holo flag rocks though!
I sure hope you did put some lamb on your bbq nails. Thanks, I'm really happy with the flags, and the lady at the post office commented how patriotic they were.
DeleteHaha that's pretty funny with the shrimp. Looks like real one as well. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, the idea was good, but the execution was pretty poor.
DeleteGlitter Gal is asking that people post Aussie themed mani's to their Facebook page. You should upload yours, they're AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteThanks you so much. You know what, I'm not even on facebook (I must get on that train someday!) But I notice that some sweetie has posted a link to my blog (thanks Meg Smith)
DeleteI get hungry watching your nails - LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL - not when I look at my nails, but when I think of them yes!

ReplyDeleteThanks Lililala, I've never done awards, but I love reading them on other peoples pages, so I might just create a page to put them all on.

ReplyDeleteI still maintain that no Aussie in their right mind says "Shrimp on the Barbie" :D HA HA HA ... but prawns are so yummy!! Way to be creative
Awesome traditional Aussie mani and I got a laugh out of your prawn mani. I don't think it was that bad at all, but the fact that you had the idea at all is hilarious. Never would have thought to do that. Maybe next year?
ReplyDeleteLoving the prawn mani! It's epically awesome! Here's my Australia Day effort... http://little-nails.blogspot.com/2012/01/happy-hottest-100-day-aka-australia-day.html I went for a Hottest 100 themed mani, with Gotye triangle pattern things all over the place!
ReplyDeleteVery unique idea for your Aussie day mani!!
DeleteThe flag design is fantastic! That's exactly what I had in mind for my Australia Day nails, but I completely ran out of time in between all the party planning!
ReplyDeleteHere is what I ended up with instead, as a quick fix. Very messy, but my guests still paid me compliments! :)
I love those shrimps too! Very cute.
Love your mani too, great union jack and the glitter looks fantastic.
DeleteI'm sorry but I laughed out loud at the shrimp mani. Repeatedly. :D
ReplyDeleteShrimp decals wtf, I never even knew such a thing existed!
...and now that I read the post again, I see you made the decals yourself. I was thinking it's a weird pattern for a company to make. :) Anyway, I didn't know you could make your own decals either! Wish I had a colour printer, hmm...
